I Have Come
I have come
to your
sacred doorway
many times
with flowers
sweet words and
sultry rhymes
with entreaties
and often a hunger
that would not
satiate
even after
I had stripped
the vine
of all its grapes
slipping through
tentative thresholds
that later opened
wide
finding my way
to that secret room
only perfect lovers
ever find
coaxing the latch
caressing the key
losing all sense
of what was
left of you
or me
then leaving
in the chrysalis
of dawns half-light
never sure
if the door
behind me
was abruptly
shut tight
until I showed up
within your eyesight
not at your doorway
or from anywhere
not arriving
already here
invited from
somewhere
into your everywhere.
