I wish -
I wish I was a mountain
majestic, broad and high
with a frigid, distant beauty
that reaches to the sky
to be that grand sierra
that you could never change
oh, I'd give all things …
to be a mountain range.
I wish I was a country
to which you’ve never been
that you have longed to visit
but your eyes have never seen
should I be such a country
as secluded as the sun
oh, I'd trade my breaths …
to be that land, far-flung.
I wish I was a candle
that you could never harm
a-dancing in the darkness
so clear and bright and warm
oh, if I could be that flame
I would burn away your ire
yes, I'd give up every-
thing to be that fire.
oh, I wish I was a stone
so you’d kick me down the beach
then throw me to the depths
make my heart far out of reach
yes, I wish I was a stone
rigid, silent, cold, and hard
I would trade my life …
to be that rocky shard.
oh, I wish I was a bayonet
with edge of sharpened steel
so I could cut your heart out
and you'd know how it feels
how I wish I was a dagger
then I’d sever all our ties
yes - I'd sell my soul …
to be a blade as wise -
for my will is LOST …
when I look in your eyes.
