If You Be With Me More In My Life
Yes I shouldn’t!
But yes—I should.
For I should not
mourn my whole life
Should I?
I could be more than
an ordinary man
And could write more
than a mini-poet!
We could have
together dreamt in
dormant winters,
And walked a lovers-
walk
By the blue lake’s
bank in the balmy
summer.
Sparrows on willows
would have
whispered,
Fishes swimming
along the shallow
shore
Secretly overheard.
You praising that
Hindi writer-scholar
I an Irish poet-
senator...
I would try in Iambic
meter
And find ample words
that would rhyme
If, you be with me
more in my life
As someone, more
than a friend, less
than a wife!
