Images of You and Me
I love you who are here and near
And I love you who are there so far
Our dear Father has planned it this way
And now happily His we are, and always will be
The mere thought of you, my brother, my sister,
causes me to weep
Throughout history, our promises and treaties
have been hard to keep
We are still separated by valleys and pits so deep
But we must stay in the race as we walk, run, and leap
And we must continue to climb the hills and mountains so steep
Though sometimes we are lost, tired, and weak
There is still time to find the peace we seek
One God, one face, is all that I see
Divided and disconnected is no way to be
Let’s find a way to reconnect and live free
There’s a mirror revealing love to be the key
In his image are you and me
This poem was written more than 12 years ago. It was occasioned by the feeling I experienced after meeting a person from another country and different cultural background. I felt a kindred spirit which gave birth to this poem.
