In My Looking Glass
I saw you in my reflection.
You were there behind
Gazing at my looking glass,
As if there was something deep inside.
I saw you in my reflection.
And you always seemed to stay,
While I stared into the looking glass
You’d lead me on my way.
I saw you in my reflection,
Then one day you were not there.
So I put down my looking glass
And wondered why I’d care.
I looked not at my reflection,
I looked only for where you were;
I did not check the looking glass
A change of heart now did occur.
I sought out the man in my reflection,
I searched high and low.
Till I looked through a window glass
And saw you there below.
You saw me now, as no reflection;
But a person, body and soul
Not a figure in a looking glass;
But a being, human and whole.
I asked the man in my reflection
What did he now see?
The face without its looking glass,
The face of only me.
The man said that the reflection,
Was a vain and petty thing
Always looking to her looking glass.
And how those words did sting.
But the man that stood in front of me
Said that he saw so much more.
Than a pretty face within a mirror,
But the heart deep within its core.
So when I looking into the glass,
I have wrinkles and gray hair.
But the man in my reflection
Will stand beside me there.
