In The Shadow Of Sunlight
In the shadow of sunlight she stood
With inviting look
Against a tree
Her silvery dress shimmering
With a hint of a smile
Playing across her lips
Her gaze fixed upon me
Who was that vision
That she looked at me
With such pleasure ?
Lost in the moment,
I rubbed my eyes
In bewilderment
And when I returned her gaze
She was gone
No more inviting
My approach
Had the heat of the day
Turned my head
And conjured up
This daydream
Or was it the longing
For the love
I so yearned for
Which created that figment
Of my imagination.
At that very moment,
The sun disappeared
The sky became black
Plunging me into
A downcast depression
All I was left with
Was that fleeting memory
Of her smile
And in my sorrow
I hugged that tree.
