In this lifetime, we got it right

Inspired by love stories that burn bright and hot... And don't get their happily ever after.

In this lifetime, we got it right

I thought we were on fire
I thought we'd burn forever
Like phoenixes rise from the ashes
I thought no one could destroy our reign

But I was wrong, my love, my love
Oh, boy, I was wrong, my love, my heart
It's so amazing how hot we burned
How bright the flame between us

And yet, here I sit on a cold, hard floor
Surrounded by ashes and dust and roses
This house no longer a home
When you died and ended our story

In this lifetime...
This lifetime where we got it right
How priceless and magical
In this lifetime we got it right

And now when I look up at the stars at night
They twinkle and shimmer like our souls ignite
Together, forever, is what we're meant to be
Maybe in the next lifetime, we'll have forever for real

I knew we were on fire
We knew before we even met
Our souls had made the pact
Back in the cradle where we were formed

Created for one another
Gifts of love and light and peace
So much hope and faith between us
But over lifetimes of trials, it became difficult

Like angels with clipped wings
We wondered if we'd ever fly again
Like those phoenixes that die and rise again
We'd wondered if we'd get to burn and ascend

In this lifetime...
This lifetime where we got it right
How priceless and magical
In this lifetime we got it right

And now when I look up at the stars at night
They twinkle and shimmer like our souls ignite
Together, forever, is what we're meant to be
Maybe in the next lifetime, we'll have forever for real

In this lifetime...
This lifetime where we got it right
How priceless and magical
In this lifetime we got it right

And now when I look up at the stars at night
They twinkle and shimmer like our souls ignite
Together, forever, is what we're meant to be
Maybe in the next lifetime, we'll have forever for real
