Into the Sunset
Into The Sunset
She fought to keep it from setting,
to forestall the inevitable,
to keep from forgetting.
Fought to make the shadows lengthen,
stretch - and hold another moment
praying that her will would strengthen.
Ran to highest point of ground,
felt the final pulse of warmth,
clutched - last rays in passing’s sound.
Watched as warmth and light withdrew,
shadows turned to dark,
fields shed teary dew.
He fights to keep it from setting,
to forestall the inevitable,
to keep from forgetting.
