Love Poem: It Was Enough

It Was Enough

He rode his horse 'cross the plains wild and free
Toward that special place where mountains rise
He owed no man, the land was his to see
It was enough, 'til he recalled her eyes

She'd been sixteen and he had found first love
They talked and laughed and gazed at glittered skies
While he held her hand and thanked God above
The world was his - he marveled at its size

Then she was gone, she had just slipped away
And he was left alone among the cows
He still owned the world and the light of day -
He held it close with all the here's and now's

Mountains rose and he whistled in surprise
It was enough 'til he recalled her eyes
