Jane
flowers are insignificant
gone so soon, waxen petals wilt away in mere hours
so delicate the breeze will break them
this is not the budding of a rose, the beauty of a cherry tree, or even a meadow.
it is the universe.
galaxies of shimmering stars
in your dismal eyes, expanding horizons, the sunrise on a distant world
the void when you are not here to light my sky
it is you seeing the same
constellations as i do,
the capricious ways time ticks faster
the atmosphere gets thinner but we adjust, we breathe, we strive
it is fear
that the stars will fade like an aster's grace
the sun we built won't be enough to keep you warm
when you are a nebula of celestial brilliance
and i am a dwarf within your boon.
flowers are insignificant
when you outshine them all
