My darling, I am awake today with birds singing
Sweetly through the wetlands, from mate to mates
They call their love, their choral notes rejoicing
And all earth a heaven seems as the dawn dilates
Into sweet thoughts of you. But, O, empty are
My arms, and lonely the fold of crinkling sheets
As sunlight make pale the sparkle of morning star
And make nude the night's voluptuous deceits.

You are not here, not here, and I alone must bare
The dreary seduction of tired walls, the emptiness
Of care. Not this, not this, I hope, O love, to share
For in your absence there is only meaninglessness
I want to kneel down and to pray, with you beside
Me the constant while, to hear your heart like the tides
Carrying my dreams in and out, and then by your side
To close my eyes, and know the peace thy love provides

O but, it's morning, it's morning, and daylight comes
Softly through my window as if it was JSA again
With trembling hands I touch my dream, time succumbs
To my madness, love's litany and hope's refrain
That I shall embrace you still like this, kiss you
And taste again otaheite apple on your tongue's tip
Smell you again - jasmine fragrance mingled with dew
And with this desire bind the anchor of passion's ship.
