Journey of Poems
She reads a poem
from a book I bought
while I rest my hand
on her knee.
A landscape rolls toward us
through the windshield:
hills, farms, sun and sky
as our life together lies ahead.
After she finishes the poem
tires sing, and a moment
of silence says more
than I could ever say.
Read another, I ask.
Rumi, page after page,
speaks of spirit and passions
as wonders of the day
unfold before our eyes..
The skies are clear
and puffy clouds pass like dreams,
and she is at my side.
As words leap off the page
we fly to the stars.
