Just a Friend
Just A Friend
I saw you in the school cafeteria
Surrounded by other girls
A protective wall shielding you from life
I watched you for days
Never once did our eyes meet
There was no chance of meeting you
You were too sweet
You were too pretty for a boy like me
Finally, I saw you all alone
Your friends had all gone their ways
You looked so sad and alone
Nearly on the edge of tears
That was the day we met
The day I got up the nerve to talk to you
You came down off of the pedestal
At that moment you were just a girl
At that moment I was just a boy
We became the best of friends as we spoke
That was oh so many years ago
Now you are a star
Brighter than Heaven could ever dream of
I became a poet and a writer
Writing poetry of love
Writing of feelings so strong they should not be felt
I think back of you while I write
Of those hours we spent talking
I remember the friendship we shared
Mind mind shuts down with the thoughts
My heart takes over and writes down the words
And my friend is in every word, every line
And she is remembered with love
