Just the story of one life out of a million
It was a beautiful and breezy day
About mid afternoon in the middle of May
I was busy cleaning house and baking,
Pleasant, though my heart was aching
When there came a knock on the open front door
And I wonderedwho it was, for
I didn't expect anyone at that time
And my livingroom was full of papers and rhyme.
I in all politeness went and looked out
To see who was knocking without
With all rudeness I couldn't resist a little gasp
For my heartache was realized at last
For there stood a young man
Handsome, deep blue eyes, bit of tan
I had no expectation of him
Yet, stammering, I opened the door and let him in.
It was obvious in a flash to me why he had come
For ev'r since we first had met we knew we were to be one
His eyes gazed into mine as he spoke
But I beat the escape to hurry and turn my bread loaf.
"My dear"said he, "My heart is full of love true
No more can I with hold my plea, I long to marry you
Ever since we met I knew I'd finally found the one."
And gazing into my silent face and expressive eyes, he knew that he had won.
Our lives together could not be equaled
And soon we welcomed a son into our household
Life was sweet and beautiful
We were in love and both youthful
Beautiful life must go on forever I thought
But I didn't realize my life would come to nought
A year only had just passed
When I had to say godbye to my husband at last.
Three days after his death
My baby son I also laid to rest
In my deep sorrow I wished that I could die too
For mine was a love existent forever and true
Why had my husband been taken away?
And my baby son, was more than I could say
Alone and in distress, beaten down at that
Lonely in my room, I dreamed as alone I sat.
Everything we had shared
When one suffered, the other had cared
We had the same interests, laughed over the same books
And we never treated each other like any old crooks
Now to carry on alone
In my once happy, but now lonely home
But my life needed new reason
And I searched for it all the lonely season.
