Knowing When To Stop

It is hard with a friend, but there too comes a time
When a boundary's born, and you stop! There's no rhyme!
"He's my flesh, you're absurd," but inside you a bird
Stops its singing, has died, 'gold' mine's salted by pride.

How to stop is your task, when your friend's life's a flask,
But air must be restored, if your love gets ignored,
And your largesse not spent, till he shows real intent
To give up liquid food, that now alters his mood.

If you've reason to care, find some tough love to share,
To indulge inner child can encourage the wild,
And decision so coarse leaves you with no recourse,
He must fend for himself; you are not his good elf!!

Tell me who but a fool, would throw pearls at a mule
Better give friend small treat who still stands on his feet!
Let moon hear donkey's bray and the sun ‘tan his hide!'
Die when we love our pain, live when Christ's death's our pride!
