Let the Children Play
Once I stumbled upon a place
Overgrown with brambles and thorns
But there was a rusty old gate
Tattered and torn
....just hangin' around
I entered with wonder
Just wanting to discover something new
Many reasons to leave
But I had nothing else to do
...just clamoring about
I got lost in the silence
The noise was profoundly loud
Playing in the darkness
Away from the crowd
...just being sound
Deep in the thick of sorrow
I saw a merry-go-round
I cleared the weeds
And ran upon your ground
...with pattering feet
I looked north and saw a swing
The chains squeaked and moaned
I pushed off to meet the sky
When I heard the wind groan
...with flapping wings
Suddenly, the atmosphere changed
I watched as the playground emerged
I squealed in delight
As I indulged the childish urge
.....to play
............where
I wondered what I was doing
In that forbidden place
But it was abandoned
And I was extended grace
.....to play
..........there
The time to play...is over
I still have questions, but I've laid them down
I am grateful for the playground
Where the love of a man, I found
...and it is beautiful
