Lilac Recollections

Even now, I recall that memory; When we both sat in the dim hallway— Your eyes held hope, yet showed agony; I watched you fade into disarray. Like decades passed since we last did meet; Through nights we danced 'tween love and hate— Though gods proved ruthless, bitter yet sweet: We lingered here, tempting our fate. I missed you—your laughs and lilac scent; Reminds me why I yearned so greatly. But tonight brought change; with intent, I whispered, "Now you're free, and I'm sorry." Even now, I see your tears that night; How they fell like rain upon pasture— In letting go, I may be wrong or right; 'Fore dawn revealed your swift departure. Now as I cross this somber hallway, I can't escape the vivid flashback: You're here with me that cold Sunday; While lilac scents still linger back. -
