Love Is War
To the battlefield he races
Counting not the
challenges he faces
Broken hearts and hearts
on a break he sees
But in war, there are no
cool breezes
For the tender hearted it
seizes.
Dear lofty heart, I write to
you this because I’m hurt
To the gutters my love and
zeal have gone
Words from my mouth in
disarray I blurt
A painful shot of pride to
my heart I took
Knowing not in so doing
many I forsook.
Suspicion and insecurity
are the order of the day
‘I love you so’, they say, just
to get away
Could you live just another
day this way?
Love is patient, honest and
kind they say
Yet they practice not what
they preach
But just like fine wine, love
grows with time
A frontline general in that
respect I’ve become
A twenty one gun salute to
the strong heart
That which took several
shots that hurt and yet has
overcome
A sign that the strength of
a man lies in his heart.
