Material Love
Love for a person & love for a being
Is now nothing compared to love for things
A pair of shoes for a boy
I'll sacrifice love for a toy
This materialistic world in which we live
Is turning out to be a well-disguised thief
Robbing us of happiness we once found in simplicity
And replacing it with insatiable needs that are rife with complexities
No more 'I love yous' in exchange for 'Do you love me?'
Now its I love you because you can give me something shiny, new & fancy
Many friends walking down the aisle
It's a happy day; they're the glowing bride!
But nobody can see the tear within
The one that signifies a fragmented win
The tear that holds the true love sacrificed
In order to live a life that is relatively nice
Having it all was what we searched for in a character
But now owning it all seems to be the better
They say life is a wheel that keeps revolving
I pray for the day the priority arrow turns back to the love of beings
Over the love of things.
