Mixed Marriage

She was Catholic, I a Baptist, when we met and fell in love.
Jesus Christ was watching, from his vantage point above
He knew we both believed in him, believed he saved us from our sin,
That he died upon the cross for us, it was the best place to begin.
We both had Christian morals, though we'd slipped a time or two
He whispered softly, in our ears, “This is the only one for you”
We both had been in marriages, that were less than blessed by God.
Knowing we were soul mates, he gave our wedding vows the nod.
The Holy Spirit, chimed right in, “I'll help you out along along the way”
The Father, Son and Holy Ghost, all shook our hands that day.
More than fifty years have gone. My true love has passed along
Neither one of us converted, to sing the other's Christian song.
She's still Catholic, I a Baptist, we did not risk our Christian love
She and Jesus Christ are watching, from their vantage point above.
If there's a lesson to be learned here, it's that true love conquers all
We will be together, once again, Christ already made that call.
