Moonless Night
Just like yesterday I met her,
Our eyes met and so did our hearts.
She was looking and I was desperate,
My life would never be the same.
Death: there is no one to blame,
For the way our lives end in shame,
She was gone as soon as she came,
And now, my life will never be the same
Just like this morning,
I got on my knee and unveiled the ring.
I wish life had given me a warning,
So this pain wouldn't forever sting.
Fate: just around the corner,
A happy man becomes a mourner.
Destiny is deeply sewn, forcibly innate,
On my chest, an anvil of weight.
She said it'll just be a little while,
A car trip.
A sickness.
A vacation.
A new job.
All so subtle, all so safe.
But how can we guarantee,
Our love's permanent security?
She is gone forever.
We'll never see it coming,
But we'll always see it go.
We were so depressed when we were alone,
Until love revives us right to the bone.
Love is not forever, and it will eventually disown,
The effects of death are not well known
Until it meets our love
And it is known much too well.
