Moonlight Chalice
Broken lines of poetry
Are all that's left to see
A page of forgotten memories
To cheer the heart in me
Memories so cherished kept
That too soon turn to gray
And in the end the storms of life
Twist the cruelest fate your way
With each soul that passed on by
As people come and go
Leaving, dying, mostly crying
In the end, it is always so
And when the darkness from the night
Claims the empty soul
Sadness from all senseless strife
Leaves a bitter toll
There is a time of harmony
When you hold a special place
When Heaven shines a sacred light
That filled your days with grace
But Heaven no longer comforts me
My heart is ravaged, cold and dead
All the love it held so dear
Washed clean by tears I’ve shed
There is no fire in my heart
Love is not a flame
The broken pieces of that harp
Can never play again
So as the bluest part of day
Becomes the black of night
And clouds of silver, pink, and gray
Have disappeared forever from your sight
You finally turn on inward
Into a white silk, black cocoon
To dream a final dream of love
And wait for midnight’s doom
I hold that last of moonlight
In a chalice by a sea
And say a proper prayer for peace
To seek eternity
