Mother
What do girls do who haven't any mothers to help them through their troubles? - Louisa May Alcott
Wherever my heart has gone,
Whatever my soul has known,
She has been there, like the sun –
Shining love, a flame in the dark,
Silencing all of my doubts,
Remembering, even in the shadows,
There is light… there is wonderful,
There is beauty and there is hope.
Wherever my spirit has ensued,
Whenever life has been good,
Even when I’ve been misunderstood,
She has been like grace, inspiration –
Soothing away my pain,
Stirring my thoughts to be filled with grace,
Rousing me from the fears and tears…
Assuring me that there will be second chances,
And that, despite my regrets, new ventures….
Wherever my life has gone dark,
Whatever disappointments life has brought,
She has been there, singing a song…
About joy, peace and going on,
Despite all the grief that might come,
Despite all the sadness that feels so wrong –
Because of her, I can let go of the sorrow,
Fall fast into the love that she encourages…
With her light, soft and flowing – like music,
A melody of joy and wonder, a song
Broken into verses beyond words….
Wherever I have been disappointed,
Whatever dejection has come to me,
She has been the answer to my prayers,
The promise that is never broken,
The feeling that comes from the kindest hope,
The grace that abides for those who know her…
As Mother, the beautiful that doesn’t fade,
The sensitive that never fears the pain,
The dance through forever and a day…
When life brings its shadows, she is the ray…
The heavenly shaft of exhilaration, rich
With grace – such a sweet angelic face …
She is the one who brings light with her,
So that the darkness will never succeed
In destroying what she has gained, a love –
Love beyond words, love like poetry in the making,
Burning, simply breathtaking…
This love that I feel for my mother…
Is a love like no other,
A love that I’ll never give to another –
Because she is the joy given to me, my precious mother.
