Mother Hen
I felt great calmness and perfect peace. I had the feelings of a poor man who has just come under the protection of the Royal Family, and has obtained an annual pension for life-the dreadful fear of poverty and want having left his house for ever; I felt the safety and shelter which the little chickens feel under the wings of the hen. This is what it is to abide under the shadow of the Almighty, and to hide under His wings until all dangers are past. - Christmas Evans
Under her wings,
She hides those she adores,
Beautiful whispers of soft and silky
Insights into what it must mean,
To feel the wonder of a shelter
So secure, so safe…
It feels like the miracle of love,
Love that is stirred by grace,
Love that is pure and amazing,
Love that is the way – light fades
From evening, leaving a sigh…
Soundless music, worn and frail,
Filling the heart with truth and faith,
Shielding the soul from darkness,
That clings to the spirit,
That dims every enthusiasm,
That stops the sunlight’s glow.
Under her wings,
She covers these magnificent blessings,
Perfect little hearts, measures of hope,
Placed in the protection of a love,
Affection so warm,
A haven from the world,
Where nothing can ever harm,
Where the joy is peaceful and sure,
Where destinies are composed of poetic
Moments, graceful thoughts, flowing,
Beyond the normal, into the uncommon,
Into the softness of a wonderful,
Beyond the shadows, through the misty
Dreams, feelings like flames,
Roaring to life in defense, her devotion,
Still as the longing who knows,
She is the answer to God’s need for warmth,
That is forever greater than the imagination,
Forever dazzling with inspiration.
Under her wings,
She masks the gentle, the meek,
Concealing the sweet with a promise,
Believing, forever is likely to bring –
The most valuable gift, blessings like kisses
Falling all over the spirit who sings,
Beneath her wings… in the silent retreat,
Where hopes are in rhythm and silence sees
Through the peacefulness, into the edge
Of an astonishing that abides for those
Who see the simplicity of her love,
…. Though unpretentious and humble,
This is love that knows… it is wise,
With a wisdom that never lets fear grow
Into a place where hope cannot follow,
Into a place where love cannot spread,
The melody that resonates in her dance.
Under her wings,
In the shadows of her love –
There is a serenity, a shelter that reminds,
Wherever she goes,
In her heart, there remains a passion,
Love for those she protects,
Love for those she accepts,
Love for those she’ll not neglect,
Love for those who she reflects…
A part of her that she’ll never regret,
A part of her that she’ll always preserve…
Under her wings, where she’ll defend them,
In any event – whether good or bad,
Happy or sad… she’ll always love them,
Her heart is held by the grasp of the lives,
Who made her a mother, a mommy, a mum – someone,
Whose heart was undone when these little ones were born!
Under her wings, where they have learned,
To believe in the love that they’ve been shown,
The love that their hearts have known,
The love that comes from someone who has given them…
Not just the desire, but the method and means,
The ability to see beyond the broken road that leads…
To a joy that feeds on their mother’s sincerity,
A faith that leads them to love that never leaves,
A life that agrees, when their heart is in need…
They have a love that will forever be – a precious gift,
The answer that they need, the Mother Hen,
Who is always keeping their hearts and souls with peace,
That comes from a love that only she can suggest,
A love that is alive, like the stars in the skies,
A love that abides, even when the stars grow dim,
A love that remains, always giving more than it takes.
A mother’s love – a blessing of God’s grace,
A miracle that never forsakes, the answer to a prayer
For love that prepares each heart for the time…
When they’ll need to know the road toward home,
Under her wings, where their home is blessed,
By a feathery sincerity, a clarity
That agrees, she is the rarity that forever sees…
Beyond the present, into the future,
Where they’ll become – mothers, like herself,
Mothers who protect the innocent,
Mothers who believe in God’s gift of love –
Mothers who need to send light into the world!
