Mountaintops
Mountaintops rise…
to blot out the sun’s glare
to emulate a flight into the stars.
Lovers who risk the greatest of heights
seize the horizon, revealing beauty
under circling clouds…
or smolder in rage to melt into a foggy night.
The summit conceals valleys where passions
ignite, then stifle the anticipation of scarlet skies…
You ask how I feel…faint from vapors,
faint from altitude.
Never did you promise to climb the mountains together,
to lift the veil, exposing morning’s transparency.
If only, you would…the mountains may capture us,
Love may take hold.
The fire may flame in a lingering glow.
If only, If only you would disclose your burning secrets
and return from the brink of suffocation, despair…
If only, If only…
love could heal, breathe, thrive…
Mountaintops may rise again.
