My Beloved, Snow
I walk in the empty park,
where winter twilight is dense and full;
and the sky falls to shadows,
and trees and ground blend;
ebbing into vagueness . . .
The path is wet under my feet,
and little frills of ice adorn all things;
crystalline, frosty and filigree,
then, suddenly the air is full of snowflakes;
Snow has come to be my beloved . . .
I am breathless and wanting,
with Snow floating among the hanging trees;
and I feel his sweet silent kiss,
upon my hair, my cheek and my ruby lips;
as I stand still in his loving embrace . . .
My world is quiet and tranquil,
with my beloved Snow whispering softy;
drifting, floating, wrapping his arms,
and I whisper back, Snow I love you,
knowing sadly he will leave me . . .
