My Brother, My Friend
we are all bound together by the Godly bonds of brotherhood
we are all the children of the Creator who is all perfect and good
we have always been His neighbors, we have always been His friends
for that was how He acknowledged man from the very beginning
God sent us an invitation that was full of forgiveness and grace
an offer of a philos love which He desired to put into place
a friendship, a fellowship, a pure love between men
the type of love that modern society can't seem to comprehend
it's not about a physical love, it's not about homosexuality
it's not the kind of love that will put one's manhood in jeopardy
it's about pure friendship, a genuine meeting of the minds
authentic relationships that are of the Christian kind
as men we need to stop being isolated and struggle alone in our pain
and not fall victim to alcohol and drugs in order to cope with the shame
as men we need to stop being so stressed
about the expectations that society on us has impressed
don't allow secular society to define the parameters of brotherly love
don't allow the world to besmirch that which was sent from God above
friendship is the flower found in the desolated deserts in life
friendship is the wine from the vine that is Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ, the Son of Man
who came to tell His Father's plan
He once told a parable about a Good Samaritan
the type of man that any would call a friend
someone who might not even know you at all
who would lift you up if you should ever fall
someone who would aid you and tend to your hurts
and not leave you lying all alone in the dirt
someone who would give you their last dime
or a part of their meal on which you could dine
Yet among today's young black men who call each other brother
they're the one who are more likely to abuse and kill each other
they have issues, they're angry, fed up and frustrated with life
trials, troubles, everyday is a struggle, every minute full of strife
they've been stripped of their dignity, their honor and the goals
living lives of violence which have gotten completely out of control
as Christians we must move beyond the church walls
and go into the neighborhoods
look beyond our religiosity and start doing the greater good
with sympathy and empathy for our fellow man
to give comfort and compassion as much and as often as we can
to be like the Good Samaritan and do whatever you have to do
to offer a brotherly love and friendship like Jesus did for you
