My Golden One

MY GOLDEN ONE

I know, my dear, now I know
that my silence sculpted
that sorrow in your face.
I have no talent
for quick love.
Only when the dark shadow of loneliness
descends on my heart,
it seems to me
that my wit sharpens.
But it just as well might be my vanity.
My dear,
I have never dared
to reveal my heart
to anyone,
like I did to you
in this poem.
You have nurtured our love
like some fairy princess.
You would be like an angel
if you didn't walk the same earth
that humans do.
My golden one,
because of my treacherous
silence,
a tear is sliding down your face
in the silent black rain.
One might think
that the sky is shrouded in black,
moaning the death of the sun.
Rain, rain,
and rain again;
thus, my golden one,
read this poem
and throw your shadow onto the earth,
so the sun may be resurrected
and eternally shine on our love.
