My Love awaits a heart
My Love awaits a heart—
To hold
As Souls are meant in pairs—
Mere death’s lone wink
This way finds
My Embrace—as it fares—
Still Hate does flow within—
These walls
I fight off as it sears—
The breath of Love abides—
It calls
Though falling on deaf ears—
*I wrote this poem on January 4, 2024, as part of a ’30 days of poetry’ January challenge. This was day 4 and the prompt was: Turn a poem you love into its opposite. My inspiration for this poem was Emily Dickinson’s, “I Had No Time to Hate.”
