Love Poem: My Romeo

My Romeo

They say that distance is just a number
A space between you and me
Full of people, animals, buildings, and they
Don’t know how much I suffer!

I think of those long two thousand miles
When you tell me you want to see me
But to me, it is all impossible
Because…
YOU can barely leave your town!
And I have the whole world cradled in my palm
Possibilities are endless, time is of the essence!

I think of you everyday and that distance
Of how unfair it is that you and I
Don’t have the luxury of holding hands and waking up together
The three hour time difference makes you sleep earlier than me
And wake up when I’m still dreaming

And when I wake up, I see you’ve already
Dragged yourself to school and plunged yourself into the day
But there you are, waiting for me to tell you
I love you and am proud to know of you

And there are days when you
Are no longer emotionally present
And I will always be there, even if the distance stands

Remember I was there when you and your girlfriend of four years
Broke off your relationship for good,
And you were there when I left the boy I was dating
Because I was suffering inside, too
Remember I was there when you needed schoolwork to be done
And I stayed up in the long hours of the night
Typing away for you, as if I were you
And I was there when you were scared of losing me
Reassuring you that I would never leave
Even though ONE click of a button
Can erase you from my life forever!

I love you
Because you never doubted me, and never EVER told me
I couldn’t follow my dreams and desires
And you never once told me that my tastes
Were stupid and too unusual for someone my age
And I never once told you that I thought
You were too strange to be liked
So we became Romeo and Juliet
Because you said Juliet was like my name
And I could only reciprocate your romantic gesture
And STILL, after all this time, after all we’ve been through
You’re still my Romeo
Even though the distance between us still stands!
But they say distance is just a number…
And it is, so just you and me
Let’s bring the number down to zero
