Never So Gently
He holds me never so gently
as a moment hungered then slipped away
his palm upon my heart stands sentry
as a secret kept or a promise made
He turns my grief to grace in the night
branding hope by the love burning in his eyes
etching his heart upon my mind
when doubt reaches in with its lies
Wrapped in his arms of strength so tender
enraptured by his magic of simple pleasure
by every thought my heart conceived
this man is the man of my dreams
Worthy nay, of all his due
who bears his soul simple yet true
No saint upon the miles trod
but one fond thing he never forgot
Fine sand of time nor water be grasped
without it slipping away
like the real that lies beyond all masks
never altering in the day by day
He gives himself like earth in my hand
a tangible exponential reality
expanding the borders beyond my plans
while our galaxy holds firm by his gravity
I'm the world in his calloused hands
as softly he cups my heart
declaring by me he's a better man
despising the dawn when we part
For touch delayed a remedy must find
the want when EVERYTHING is desired
seems patience is the skill of the wise
for the promises true covenants require
So know today my soul is true
your tender heart I'm holding too
our covenant a promise forever true
the lady in your life who'll never hurt you
Be naked then and unashamed
the heart of the man that's you
who washes over me as a gentle rain
pure as as any heart ever knew
Never stop holding my heart as we sleep
for it carries my soul through the day
your warmth embedded here where I keep
the always of the promise we made
