No Longer Superman
Helped my son move into college
Just the other day
It was then that I had realized
What took my breath away
No longer was I his hero
I've become more of a friend
I wont lie I still miss the days
When he reached to hold my hand
And with a tear in my eye it hit me then.......
I'm no longer superman
Though he looks up to me
It's not into my eyes
He's much taller than me now
It's more a sense of pride
He knows that I love him
And now I'm his biggest fan
It hurts to know it's time to let go
I'm no longer superman
A few years later Jr came home
With some news that changed our lives
His wife was due in 8 months
He said he needed some advice
I said son you wont need a Cape
Or drive a fancy car
Just be there for your kid
To help mend their broken heart
Enjoy it all for what it's worth
For as long as you can
Cause one day soon you'll get the news
Your no longer superman
They'll look up to you
But it wont be for your eyes
Just make sure their hearts
Are filled with a sense of pride
Make sure they know you love them
And that you're their biggest fan
It'll hurt I know, when the truth unfolds
That you're no longer superman
Every hero sees his day
You just hope to pass the torch
The course of life gets crazy
I told him on the porch
Son I dont have too long
And as he reached to take my hand
He said dad you know you'll always be
My superman
With a tear in his eye his son realized
He's no longer superman
