No Roses For Rose
Her eyes look up towards the amber skies
In solemn prayer before the Sun dies
Only to live again a zillion times
Prayer is not for the Sun as it climbs
Yet again setting the world's busy pace
Shining on the young girl's beautiful face
She pleads with the Lord, prays for her lover
To return, promised gifts to deliver
The long struggle for love is not over
Her lover is yet to come, moreover
Springtime's wasted, cold Autumn is on her
Pricking her like barbs for her to suffer
The lonely days in silent agony
Unable to withstand Antagony
From society, her family too
No wonder her staunch supporters are few
Days pass in the hope of a reunion
To spend the days with her loved companion
On a chilly morning, the post arrives
With the news of her lover's death, and drives
Her out of her mind into depression
Not many souls to shower compassion
Hopes ruined, dreams shattered she spent lonely nights
With all days in sorrow and sullen blights
The leaves of the trees were falling away
Tossed up and swirling to the ground each day
Winter's unkind drift cutting into skin
Like quickened knife unforgiving and mean
Where hope dies the will to survive is weak
If there's no will, there is no life to seek
The Sun rose marking yet another day
For all but the girl to no one's dismay
