One Thing I Should Have Said
One Thing I Should Have Said
You would never know how many times I think of you
Remembering our first date
The first time you took my hand
It was so small I wrapped mine around it to protect it
We walked forever beneath the night’s blue moon
Your eyes were beautiful gems in the faint light
I wanted to tell you so many things that night
So many things that scared me to death
Feelings found during many months of watching you walk by
You didn’t notice me among the crowds
It took so long, such torture to get the nerve to talk to you
One hello between us
A single word that broke the endless ice between us
It gave me the chance to get to know you
To find out your likes, your fears and your dreams
It all led to the first time that I truly saw the real you
That evening pasted with a kiss as soft as a kitten’s fur
We shared many more evenings, many more blue moons
But as they say all good things must come to an end
In the past I have been with other women
Loved them each in their own special way
Yet, after all these years
After all the women and all their kisses
That first date with you is the one I remember
And when I die and go to Heaven
I will tell The Almighty what I want my Heaven to be
Endlessly reliving our date over and over again
Reliving it until I can tell you what I was afraid to tell you
Until I can tell you that I loved you
Then I will be at peace
