Perhaps
Perhaps I might have lived before?
A smuggler bold with contraband,
A peasant poor in days of yore,
Or Lady in a foreign land?
Were you with me, and did we fly
As brother, father, daughter, wife?
Did you and I in days gone by
Play out a great dramatic life?
Together did we feel this force,
This love that shines now with such bliss,
As cat or horse (or mouse, of course)?
And did we fight, or only kiss?
Our partnership, with facets bright
That send out rays that dazzle so,
Emits such light, attains such height,
That truly I’m intrigued to know!
However many lives, begun
A million times, I’d still prove true!
A rich man’s son, fish, bird, or nun,
I’d only sing love’s song to you.
