Ripple Affection
from heart to hand to heart to hand
shared with love where life began
we are but a rock ready to toss
no strings, no ties
no secrets, no lies
a ripple in time ready to live
what is taken first also must give
kindness breeds kindness
and there is no love without hope
but where do we get that
when on a ship all alone
the waves take us here
and they move us over there
lost has control
amongst aimless old souls
that's where the ripple and you coincide
no ego, no pretense, no showing of pride
one hand then another and the chain can go on
for freedom from sorrow and guilt now depends
there's no promise of tomorrow
of goodness, of peace
but if each person first walked
in their poor neighbors feet
gone pity with prudence amid a prejudiced eye
human interaction with arms open wide
It's not a call for a movement
or offering too much of one's time
a good word, a gesture
with love from inside
a ripple from you passed on to the next
can continue forever
leaving this world
with affection, no less
