Shadow of Doubt
Once a quiet prayer
spoken by gentle hope
with flaming red hair
her dreams giggled in the light
softly playing, a summer sun
sighed its music, a chorus spun
across the distant hills, so real
fading on the twilight’s dark heal
romance bleeds into her eyes
as she recalls his various lies
will heaven allow her to abide
in this pain, where she can’t hide
his stories remind her of the nights
when she prayed for solace,
before her heart fell silent on twilights
edges of fear, followed her, so clear
it was not love – though she’d cry
it was more a shadow against the sky,
a shadow of doubt, rising high
before she melted against a heavy sigh
