She Must Cry
She rode her horse beneath the twinkling stars,
And thought of their time together last June -
That interlude of peace - before the wars
Killed him and left him dead in some sand dune.
She rode her horse beneath the twinkling stars,
And nursed her broken heart with angry tears.
They had kissed beneath Jupiter and Mars
While burying their deepest, darkest fears.
Then he had gone, for that's a soldier's ways,
And she must cry for life's remaining days.
