She Won'T Be An Angel

For a bachelor plagued by soft, sweet dreams,
who's had little in waking-time to ease
the drifting fantasies that bring on schemes
too detached from Earth to be but a tease -

It's tempting to think that she'll be some elf,
flitting through trees, a twinkle in her eye.
Or a radiant angel plucked from heav'ns shelf,
to soar with him; make clouds blush in the sky.

She must be some siren or beauteous nymph,
waiting for him by a well-hidden brook -
passionate embrace her sole-sought triumph,
grateful to give anything that he took.

O bachelor plagued by these visions so sweet,
how can you have let foolish musings reign?
Too quick to dream, you've been too slow to meet,
the only true cure for a mortal man's pain.

You weren't meant to love angels or fanciful things -
there's a woman out there for whom your soul sings!
