Love Poem: silence

silence

We sit in silence, watching the clouds roll by, like they’ve got somewhere to be, and I wonder why we never do. The days stretch long, like old records playing slow, and I’m not sure if I’m tired or just waiting for something to show. You say it’s just the way things go, but I want to believe we could’ve changed the flow. Your eyes are soft, but your words are cold, and I keep wondering what’s been left untold. I trace the cracks in the wall, where the paint’s peeling away, and I think about how we’re all the same— slowly falling apart, day by day. But I don’t mind, not when you’re here with me, even if we’re stuck in the in-between. So I hold onto the way things go, because sometimes, it’s all we know. And maybe that’s enough, even if it’s all a little rough.
