Soldier
I look into the eyes of my daughter
And I see my own childhood
I see a tear fall from her face
Daddy, please don't go
Was the last thing I heard her say
Before I left that day
I touch the hand of my son
And feel the innocence of a life yet lived
He looks up at me
Puts his hand on my cheek
He says Mommy, I love you
Then I walk out the door
I look at my mom and dad
They look so sad, yet so happy
We are so proud of you son
These were their last words
Before I went away
I am here now
All I have is a picture of her
One from when I left her
One from now
She is older now, but still my baby
I don't know if I will get to see her again
All I can think about are the tears
Falling from her face
I am here too
I spoke to him yesterday
He sounds the same
But looks different
I miss him so much
I can still feel
His hand upon my cheek
And his I love you
I haven't spoke to or seen a picture of them
They can't know where I am
It's top secret
I know that they are thinking of me
I feel it in my heart
I know they are proud of me
Thats what keeps me going
We all fight together
For a lost cause
A war that we don't understand
I don't think we ever will
We don't know when we will come home
We don't know why we are here
We do know that
No matter what happens
To us or with this war
We fought hard
We fought true
Whether we come back in a box
Or dressed in our suits
We did this for you
We did this so that you can live safely
So that you don't have to worry anymore
We are the few, the proud
On the water
In the air
"This we'll defend"
