Still, Small Voice

1 Kings 19:11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. God came down – not in the wind and rain He came, not through the earthquake’s shaking He came, not in a fire without light’s refrain God came down – there would be not mistaking… In a still, small voice – His presence was found Not in the wind’s graceful rising, leaping, cavorting Not in the earthquake with its threatening sound Not in the fire, whose blaze left such harsh retorting In a still, small voice – He sought the one He adored Without elaborate grandeur, but with quiet relief Without brisk winds or fires who’re so abhorred Without illusions or pomp, He refreshed belief In a still, small voice – His presence was uncovered He came to offer His child a warmth and light He came to give sweet peace seldom discovered He came to extend hope – to give the blind sight God came down to free the sinner from their chains In His soft voice, He silenced the tears that dismayed When all is said and done, His love is all that remains With His still, small voice, He answered hearts who prayed He wasn’t in the wind or the earthquake or the fire He was in the voice who whispered life to the soul He was in the song who carries the believer higher He was in the wonder of love who will always console
