STILL SINGLE

When I was ten I met a girl
Who put my young heart in a whirl.
I thought she might come out to play,
But she didn’t see things that way.

And later on I met Nancy,
Who I couldn’t help but fancy.
I thought I might lead her astray,
But she didn’t see things that way.

I fell in love at twenty-three
And asked Marie to marry me.
I thought we ought to name the day,
But she didn’t see things that way.

Many women in my long life
Have been asked to become my wife.
Bu I’m still single, old and grey.
Not one of them saw it that way.
