Tainted
The swollen tears that burn my cheeks again
Recall the light that shone across the sea
Yet now there is no greater depth of pain
Than knowing her smile is no more for me
Forbidden love that had no right to be
Yet still I thought forever was a place
That love could thrive and dance for ever free
But love is tainted by bloody disgrace.
The cloudy shadows hid her smiling face
And saved her heart from this subversive curse
For love was out of time and out of place
A crime, beyond the page of rhyming verse.
Though love may call upon another day
Our paths must part and follow their own way
