Take Me Back
Take me back,
When we were both adolescents whose dreams were shattered.
When the view of the world smothered our vision.
When you mattered.
When our pupils were dilated and our thoughts were scattered.
When the weight of the world wasn't so heavy.
When success came in crumbs
And failure was served on a full platter.
When bad decisions became great lessons.
When weeks turned into minutes and nights felt like seconds.
When time had no presence.
Take me back,
When the the darkness shielded our troubles.
When my shadow didn't even follow me home.
Exhausted from all the struggles.
When self created lies led us back to sin.
When we walked toe to toe with death,
Hiding the hardened souls beneath our plastic skin.
Take me back,
When chaos was controlled with a controlled substance.
When life wasn't our friend,
And criminal activity was our favorite cousin.
When the streets cried because we abused our privileges.
When the lies sunk in, our hearts remained pure.
When a thousand words rested inside one tear.
Take me back,
When the sacrifices showed on our face, so our words went unspoken.
When the oxycodone easily lifted our stress.
When I was goofy and you were overly obsessed
When we lived everday as our last, caring less and less about what happened next.
When the taste of failure, was so painful because we did our best.
Take me back,
When fear was a person I could not approach.
When trust ran slim and I wore insecurity like a coat.
When there was a thin line between love and dope.
Take me back,
To when life was good.
