The Boy Who Became a Wolf
Her scars told a story of a time
When life tried to break her but failed
And she was filled for a while
with tearful wails
Maybe she was disappointed for
She expected him to love the way she did
With her entire heart and soul
Loving too much was her goal
Sometimes one has to wander around
Masked with a smile covering a frown
until you find where you really belong
Sometimes it is right where you started
Taking care of your own heart
Because the one you gave it to broke it apart
She breathed him in so deeply
That when she exhaled discreetly
Her lungs felt sore
All she wanted was a little more
Oxygen to breathe,
Space to grieve
She was fearless in the way she gave
Until she learned not to give so much
But rather save
Herself from living with such
A lot of regret
Remembering that which her mind chose not to forget
When his anger made him ill
The boy's role models never taught him conflict resolution skills
He never told his mother that what she did was wrong
He never rushed to apologise
Nor did he empathise
because his arrogant side was too strong
He was a weak boy
Who killed her joy
Talking was the problem
Having two faces and wearing both
Turning his mother against her, breaking his oath
Promising protection and to be kind
Was she that blind?
Talking behind her back on the other side
of a cardboard wall
Paving the way for a brawl
She would always emphasize
To speak in a calm tone of voice
Speak without insults and name calling
Speak without "you" statements and stone walling
Speak without swearing. Lower your voice
Think about your words. Make a smart choice.
She was limitless in the way she loved
And in the way she gave
Until she was bruised but not broken
Until her heart ache became a token
And a souvenir of the separation
Remembering the arrogance during their isolation
She learned that some disconnection would bless her life
As she slowly pulled out that knife
From her back
And got back on track
She was fearless in the way she lived
And especially in the way she loved
She learned not to give all at once
Rather take many months
Move at a slower pace
Own your space away from
The boy who made the mistake of becoming a wolf
Some girls are full of poetry and heartache
They go through the same repetitive heart break
Because they make the same mistake
Of trying to save a wolf instead of run
Becoming attached, thinking he is the one
Like the boy who became a wolf on the night of a full moon
Forgiven by the girl he attacked too soon
