The Dream of An Accident
I had a dream last night.
But I felt it really happened.
You got off the bed,
Walked to the door,
But I didn’t follow.
Unusual? Yes.
You knew so too,
For your face tells all.
Mask on,
Door open,
Foot halfway on its way.
But my words stop you.
Dead in your tracks.
I love you,
Yes, I said it.
A hand clamped around my mouth,
It was my own.
Heart pounding,
From the accidental deliverance of truth.
But your smile tells me:
That was no accident.
Love is never a conscious accident.
For nothing so vastly unique could happen
On accident.
Unless— it does.
And then, the only real accident,
Would come from the missing
And wasting of
What was in front of you
The whole time.
