The Dream of Life
The purpose of living isn’t all just giving
But receiving back in return;
It’s a two-way street not always so sweet
When lessons are meant to be learned.
The dream of life is struggle and strife
And love like it has no end;
Every moment is a double edged sword
Where enemies might become friends.
The potential’s inside to laugh or cry
At the weariness time invokes;
While appearances change what’s really strange
Is fear on the other side of hope.
And children playing in complete abandon
Immersed in the here and now;
Jesus said be just like them
But we missed the message somehow.
This life is a gift, a mysterious lift
From out of the who knows where, why or when;
All that is real is the love that we feel
And all of the pain when it ends.
Although nothing’s ever final they say
Because the universe is a gigantic mind;
Interwoven and interconnected throughout
The fabric we call time.
Dark and light, black and white,
North, south, east and west;
Opposites attract and interact
Like wakefulness and rest.
The dream of life is to see this life
Deeper than oceans lay wide;
From cradle to death we tend to forget
Our home is the boundless-ly beautiful
Starry skies.
