The Halo Worn Aslant
I shall wander the sand dunes
and cotton fields of my youth,
eyes wide and hands unclenched
to finally face the truth.
I shall fly upon my angel wings
to find the Alpine pass
that Hannibal crossed in legend's lore
upon the elephant's back.
I will face the Elders Council
without fear, but with respect,
my questions straightforward,
their answers, circumspect.
The halo I have worn aslant
since time and thought began,
shall once again shine golden light
upon my fellow man.
With calm immortal patience,
I wait in fields of flowers wild,
and when we are as one again,
all will be reconciled.
