The Heart
Sometimes we're nothing but a heart,
A heartbeat from the very start.
We start off with an outer shell
But all through life our hearts swell.
We hang from trees,
We laugh and tease,
We swing on tires,
Held by lifeless wires.
We lie at night and watch the sky,
Then learn to say the words goodbye.
And sometimes we walk in the dark,
With nothing left but a spark.
Sunsets lead to full white moons,
Sometimes byes are just too soon.
And sometimes we can lose a part,
A part of what was once a heart.
We spend our days, months and years
With all these lost hopes and fears.
And sometimes we forget the way,
And have to knee and finally pray.
Sometimes all it every takes,
Is a broken heart to finally
Wake.
